1. What is a flyfishing relationship retreat?
A flyfishing relationship retreat is a unique getaway designed for people who want to strengthen their relationship, learn about fly fishing and have some fun! It offers a blend of guided fishing, workshops and opportunities to connect with nature together.
2. Who can participate in the retreat?
Our retreats welcome partners of all skill levels in both flyfishing and relationship building. Whether you're beginners in both realms or seasoned in one and new to the other, Emily and Lizzie will tailor the experience to meet your needs.
3. What activities are included in the retreat?
The retreat includes one day of guided fly fishing and instruction and one day of relationship building and instruction focused on communication and connection. A streamside picnic lunch by the water, nature hikes, and evening activities such as stargazing or bonfires are also included. It's a perfect blend of adventure and intimacy.
4. What should we bring for the retreat?
We recommend bringing comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for seasonal desert weather, sturdy walking shoes/hiking boots, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses (polarized if you have them), and any personal items you may need. We will provide all necessary fishing gear; however, if you have your own waders, boots, or gear that you would like to use, please feel free to bring them with you. Additionally, we encourage you to bring an open mind and willingness to engage in the workshop exercises. A more detailed packing list will be provided upon registration. Please note: Sunglasses are required to participate in the guided fly fishing to protect your eyes from glare - and fly hooks! They are essential for your safety and comfort during the fishing part of the retreat.
5. Do we need prior fly fishing experience to participate?
No prior experience is necessary! Our retreats cater to folks of all skill levels. Whether you're brand new to fly fishing or seasoned anglers, our guides will provide instruction tailored to your level of experience.
6. Are accommodations provided as part of the retreat?
Accommodations are provided as part of the retreat package at the Taos Eco Lodge. Please see our Accommodations page for more information!
7. How do we book a retreat?

We recommend booking in advance as our retreats may fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons!
8. What criteria is required to be a retreat participant?
To attend you must:

Ability to comfortably navigate and enjoy natural environments

Be paid in full and complete necessary waivers and paperwork

9. Are meals provided during the retreat?
Yes. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided both Saturday and Sunday, as well as, dinner on Friday evening. These meals are included in the cost of the retreat. Please note - Dinner on Saturday and Sunday evening will not be provided; however, we offer recommendations for local restaurants for a local culinary experience under our "More" > "Taos Restaurants" tab.
10. Will special diets, food allergies or sensitivities be accommodated at the retreat?
Yes, we do our best to accommodate special diets, food allergies and sensitivities at our retreats. We ask for this information in the registration packet and will review it with you during your 90 - minute intake session. Discussing the information prior to the retreat helps us plan the best options for you.
11. Can participants expect to catch fish at the retreat? Are we required to touch fish? Will the fish be hurt?
While catching fish is part of the fly fishing experience, success can vary depending on factors like weather and skill level. That being said - we will do our best to get you on fish! Participants are not required to touch fish if they prefer not to. Our catch-and-release practices prioritize the well being of the fish. We will do everything in our control to ensure the fish are unharmed and returned to their water habitat promptly and safely. **Please note we will be fishing catch-and-release waters and will not be keeping caught fish for consumption.
12. Is alcohol permitted during the retreat?
Alcohol consumption is permitted during designated times. Participants can enjoy drinks on Friday evening during the Welcome Dinner, Saturday evening and on Sunday evening at the conclusion of the fishing activities. However, there will be no drinking on the day of the workshop session to ensure focused and meaningful participation in the therapeutic activities and discussions.
13. Will I need a fishing license for Sunday?
Yes, a fishing license is required for Sunday's fishing activities. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own fishing license in accordance with local regulations. Detailed steps for purchasing your license in advance are outlined under the tab "More" < "Fishing License Information". If you would prefer you can purchase your fishing license on the day of arrival at the Taos Fly Shop when being fitted for your fishing gear. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like assistance with the purchasing of your license. If you plan to stay in town after the retreat and would like recommendations for local fishing spots or fishing guides in the area we would be happy to point you in a fishy direction!
14. Will I have to share in front of the group during the therapy intensive?
No, while you are invited to share your insights and experiences within the larger group, all sharing is optional. We encourage participation to your comfort level but you are not required to speak in front of the group. This is not group therapy and the focus will be on establishing a loving connection with your partner.
